Las Jilguerillas was a Mexican ranchera duo consisting of sisters Imelda and MarÃa Amparo Higuera, originating from Cañada de RamÃrez, Michoacán. They started singing together as children and were discovered by another sibling duo, Dueto América, in the 1950s. Their records were arranged and produced by Gilberto Parra and Cornelio Reyna. Their first official single "Chaparrita Consentida" was released in 1955, propelling them to fame across Mexico and among Spanish-speaking audiences in the United States. Other notable releases include the 1966 single "Ojitos Encantadores" and the albums Las Jilguerillas (1972) and El Descalzo (1979). Imelda Higuera passed away in 2004. Amparo continued solo until 2007 when Mercedes Castro joined her to revive the duo. Amparo received the Eréndira State Prize of the Arts in 2017 and a commemorative plaque was erected by the municipality of Numarán in 2018. Amparo Higuera's death was announced in 2021, marking the end of the duo.
