Lamomali

The Lamomali project was born after a trip to Mali by Matthieu Chedid in 2015. Formed with kora players Toumani Diabaté and his son Sidiki Diabaté, as well as singer Fatoumata Diawara, the group chose the name, which is short for "soul in Mali". Fusing Chedid's pop, rock and chanson style with Malian music, the debut album Lamomali was released in April 2017 and proved a success, giving rise to a month-long tour across France and Belgium, followed by the live recording Lamomali Airlines. Following Toumani Diabaté's death on July 19, 2024, Balla Diabaté joins the band to record a second album, Lamomali Totem. Released in April 2025, it reached No. 8 in the French album charts, and included the singles "Je suis Mali" and "Totem" .
