Lakeyah

One of the strongest female acts to emerge from the competitive Southern hip-hop scene of the 2020s, American rapper Lakeyah made a lasting impression on rap audiences with a series of hard-hitting releases for the Quality Control Music label. Born on February 28, 2001, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she began rapping at the age of 15 and formed the duo BTM in 2017, garnering YouTube fame with the song "It's a Fucked Up Love Story." In 2019, she relocated to Atlanta to pursue a career as a professional recording artist. After going viral with a series of freestyles over City Girls' "JT First Day Out" and "We Paid" by 42 Dugg and Lil Baby, Lakeyah secured a record deal with the Atlanta-based label Quality Control Music. Time's Up, her debut mixtape, arrived in late 2020 and featured cameos by 42 Dugg, Inayah, and City Girls, who guested on the hit single "Female Goat." Preceded by the promotional singles "Poppin" with Gucci Mane and "Perfect" with Yung Bleu, a second mixtape titled In Due Time hit retail in 2021. This was followed by the release of her first EP No Pressure (Pt. 1) (2022), which included the Latto collaboration "Mind Yo Business."
