Laganja Estranja

Laganja Estranja is the stage name and musical alias of drag queen Jay Jackson. Born in Dallas, Texas, on December 28, 1988, Jackson made his drag debut as Laganja Estranja in November 2011 and auditioned for the sixth season of RuPaul's Drag Race two years later. Although eliminated halfway through the television show's run, Laganja Estranja's dramatic mannerisms and larger-than-life demeanor made her a household name amongst drag fans, and she made her musical debut by rapping on three singles — Kraxx's "Got Beat," RuPaul's "Oh No She Better Don't," and Krysta Youngs' "Gold Grill BBQ" — in 2014. "Legs," her debut single as a solo artist, followed in 2015, featuring a guest appearance by the rap artist Rye Rye. That same year, Laganja Estranja also appeared on "Gimme All Your Money," a track from Alaska Thunderfuck's debut album, Anus. The album charted at Number 3 on the US Dance/Electronic Albums chart, and Laganja Estranja continued to release standalone solo singles throughout the rest of the decade, with highlights including 2016's "Tease 4u" and 2018's "Look at Me." A longtime advocate for marijuana legalization, she returned in 2021 with "Poison Ivy," whose release was accompanied by a flashy music video that paid tribute not only to cannabis, but also to Uma Thurman's portrayal of the titular comic book villainess in the film Batman & Robin.
