Kim Choo-ja

Kim Choo‑ja, born 2 January 1951 in Chuncheon, South Korea, is a singer and actor who emerged from a background of choir and dance training. After winning a university singing festival, she secured an audition with producer Shin Jung‑hyun, leading to her debut single "Before It's Late" in July 1969. Her early releases Kim Choo Ja (1990) and Songs From Those Days (1993) consolidated her status as a leading rock vocalist, while It's Not Too Late (2014) marked a comeback. Kim received the MBC Gayo Daejejeon Best New Artist award in 1970, and her 1971 hit "It's a Lie" entered national charts. She retired from the public eye after 1980, returning briefly for a 1986 recital and a 2015 compilation Kim Choo Ja Comeback-Only the Time Goes By. The album Kim Choo Ja Good Night Baby, released in 1971, entered Bugs' Top 100 Rock/Metal albums chart at rank 52 on the week of December 15, 2025.
