Kate Aldrich

Born in Damariscotta, Maine, on October 31, 1973, Kate Aldrich is an American lyric mezzo-soprano. An international opera star since 2001, she has taken on numerous roles on stages the world over, from New York's Metropolitan Opera to Turin's Teatro Regio, San Francisco Opera, New York Opera and Buenos Aires' Teatro Colon. In 2001, her interpretation of Amneris in Verdi's Aida at Busseto, in Franco Zeffirelli's celebrated staging, catapulted her to the forefront of the stage. In 2002, she won the Culture Award at the Operalia competition, and in 2006, the Alfréd Radok and Thalia prizes in the Czech Republic. Although she tackles a wide variety of roles, Kate Aldrich is most often employed in operas by Mozart and Italian and French composers such as Donizetti, Rossini, Verdi, Bellini and Berlioz, Massenet, Bizet, Thomas and Offenbach. She also tackles the Baroque repertoire with Handel, modern opera with Richard Strauss and even Wagner in Rienzi. In 2015, she sang the title role in Carmen at the Chorégies d'Orange. Her discography includes Mariotte's Salomé conducted by Friedemann Layer (2006), Mozart's La Clémence de Titus conducted by Alessandro de Marchi (2016) and three Palazzetto Bru Zane productions: Massenet's Ariane by Laurent Campellone (2023), Saint-Saëns' Déjanire by Kazuki Yamada (2024) and Lalo's Le Roi d'Ys by György Vashegyi (2025).
