Karsu

Karsu Dönmez, known professionally as Karsu, was born on April 19, 1990, in Amsterdam to a Turkish family. She began playing the piano at age seven and had her first performances in her parents' restaurant. Dönmez received formal training at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam under Esra Dalfidan (vocals) and Ferial Karamat Ali (piano). Her debut album Live aan ‘t IJ was released in 2010, followed by studio albums Confession (2012), Colors (2015), and the self-titled Karsu (2019). Dönmez has performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall and the North Sea Jazz Festival, and was part of the project Karsu Plays Atlantic Records. She is also known for her humanitarian efforts, including founding a music school for refugees in Athens. In 2016, she received the Edison-Publikumspreis for Colors and the ELLE Style Award as Rising Musician of the Year.
