Kari Bremnes

Norwegian singer-songwriter Kari Bremnes composes songs which are full of contrasts of light and shade artfully laid over majestic, sweeping melodies. She attributes this style of writing to her childhood spent growing up amongst the scenic backdrop of the Norwegian fjords where the dramatic transition from summer to winter dominates the Norwegian way of life. At the age of 19 she was drawn to the city and made the long journey to Oslo where she studied Nordic history and language. After a time spent working as a journalist she eventually embarked on a project to set poetry written by Tove Ditlesfen against a musical score written by the composer Petter Henriksen. The songs were featured in a radio programme and this eventually led to Bremnes' first solo album 'My Wild Heart' released in 1987 on the Kirkelig Kulturverksted label. Since the release of her first album she has gone on to record a further 14 solo albums plus ten collaborations with other artists. She is now an established figure within the field of Norwegian music and is the deputy board chairman of the Norwegian Society of Composers and Lyricists.
