Julie Byrne

Julie Byrne is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist whose second album of folk songs titled 'Not Even Happiness' was described by NME as "a delicate masterpiece'. Born in Buffalo, New York, she learned to play the guitar as a teenager after her musician father could no longer play due to multiple sclerosis. She led a nomadic life around America and in 2012, while in Chicago, recorded two live EPs that in 2014 formed her debut album 'Rooms With Walls & Windows'. Influenced by poet-singers such as Leonard Cohen and Joni Mitchell she spent four years writing the songs that appear on 'Not Even Happiness' which she released in 2017. During that time, she worked as a ranger in New York's Central Park and her songs feature pastoral themes. Byrne's November 2017 performance at Union Chapel in London with veteran English artist Michael Chapman was praised highly by critics. Following appearances in Seattle, Vancouver, Portland, San Francisco and Los Angeles, her 2018 dates included Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Beijing, Shanghai, Macau, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Bangkok.
