Juan Luis Guerra 4.40 is the Dominican tropical-pop band led by singer-songwriter and producer Juan Luis Guerra, formed in Santo Domingo in 1984 as the core ensemble for his blend of merengue, bachata, salsa, and pop songwriting. After Guerra’s early work with 4.40 in the mid-1980s, the group became a pan-Latin institution in the 1990s through albums like Bachata Rosa (1990) and Areíto (1992), pairing sharp social observation with dance-floor precision and turning songs such as “Ojalá Que Llueva Café,” “Burbujas de Amor,” and “Bachata Rosa” into long-running standards. They continued evolving through the 2000s with projects like Ni Es Lo Mismo Ni Es Igual (1998) and La Llave de Mi Corazón (2007), then reaffirmed their modern era with Todo Tiene Su Hora (2014), a comeback album that kept their sound rooted in Dominican rhythm while updating the production and collaborations. In the 2020s, Juan Luis Guerra 4.40 balanced new writing with stage-centric releases: the EP Privé (2020) and the live album Entre Mar y Palmeras (Live) (2021) fed directly into a major international touring chapter that continued through the mid-2020s. After 2023’s EP Radio Güira, they expanded their catalog with releases connected to live performance and legacy curation, including a 2005 stadium concert recording issued in 2024 and additional archive-style editions in 2025, while continuing to headline large festival dates into 2026.
