Joshua Burnside

Born in Lisbane, Northern Ireland, on July 11, 1989, Joshua Burnside is a singer-songwriter, musician and performer whose music blends traditional folk, experimental elements and poetic reflections on identity and memory. He has established himself as one of the most distinctive voices on the contemporary folk music scene. Trained in music since childhood, he draws as much inspiration from Irish folk ballads as from Latin American influences, post-rock or lo-fi electronica. His style combines acoustic sounds (banjo, guitar, strings) with outdoor sound recordings, loops and grainy textures. His critically acclaimed debut album Ephrata (2017) won the NI Music Prize for Best Northern Irish Album. Joshua Burnside followed up with Into the Depths of Hell (2020), a darker, more intimate record, where social concerns, existential angst and historical obsessions are superimposed on complex sonic textures. This was followed in 2022 by the EP Late Afternoon in the Meadow (1887) and in 2025 by the album Teeth of Time, which reached number 40 on the UK folk album chart. In 2026, its successor It's Not Going to Be Okay reached number 20 in the downloads chart.
