John Leitham

Jennifer Jane Leitham, born John Leitham on August 10, 1953, is a double bass player. She has used the nicknames "Lefty" and "The Southpaw" as she is left-handed. Influenced by The Beatles and Vince Guaraldi’s work from the Peanuts holiday cartoons, she began performing in high school and received mentorship from notable figures such as Milt Hinton. Leitham has contributed to over 125 recordings, including 10 of her own. Her collaborations include long associations with Mel Torme and Doc Severinsen, as well as performances with Woody Herman, George Shearing, Gerry Mulligan, Peggy Lee, Joe Pass, Cleo Laine, Louis Bellson, Pete Rugolo, Bill Watrous, and more. Her own recordings include Leitham Up, The Southpaw, Lefty Leaps In, and Two for the Road (a duo with guitarist Jimmy Bruno).
