John Butler

Born John Charles Wiltshire-Butler, in Torrance, California, on April 1, 1975, singer, guitarist and songwriter John Butler is best known for leading the John Butler Trio. Born to an Australian father and an American mother, he grew up in Western Australia, playing a 1930 Dobro given to him by his grandfather. He began a solo career in the USA in 1994, playing in the band Vitamin. Back in Australia, he founded the John Butler Trio, which underwent frequent changes of musicians before achieving international success from the early 2000s with albums Sunrise Over Sea (2004), Grand National (2007), April Uprising (2010), Flesh & Blood (2014) and Home (2018), all of which reached number one or two in the Australian charts. Meanwhile, John Butler is also a solo artist, and in 2002 created the Jarrah Records label, under which the live albums One Small Step! (2007), Tin Shed Tales (2012) and Live in Paris (2023). Released in 2024, Running River was recorded in the studio and followed by the acoustic Still Searching. The following year saw the release of the single "Trippin on You", which charted in the US alternative charts.
