Jeneba Kanneh-Mason is a pianist and cellist from the famous British musical family. Daughter of Stuart Mason of Antiguan origin and Kaniatu Kanneh of Sierra Leone, she was born and raised in Nottingham, where she began learning piano with her mother and cello with her older brother Sheku Kanneh-Mason, one of seven siblings. After private lessons with Vanessa Latarche and studies at the Royal College of Music, she made her BBC Proms debut performing Florence Price's Piano Concerto. A finalist in the BBC Young Musicians Competition in 2018, she went on to win a number of other prizes, including the Junio Academy at London's Royal Academy of Music. In 2020, she will collaborate on the family recording of Saint-Saƫns's Carnaval des animaux, then in 2022 on Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 6 conducted by Howard Griffiths, and in 2023, on the program dedicated to Florence Price by the Chineke! Orchestra, where she performs the Piano Concerto in one movement. Signed to the Decca Classics label, she records her first piano recital, Fantasie, featuring Chopin's Sonata No. 2 and pieces by Debussy, Scriabin, William Grant Still, Margaret Bonds and Florence Price. Released in March 2025, it reached number 18 in the UK classical music charts.
