I Start Counting were an electronic music duo from North London, consisting of David Baker and Simon Leonard. They met at Middlesex University and began DJing together in 1982 before forming I Start Counting. Their initial breakthrough came with the release of two singles for Mute Records: "Letters to a Friend" (1984) and "Still Smiling" (1985). They released their debut album My Translucent Hands (1986). The following year, the duo supported Erasure on their European tour. Their second album, Fused (1989), included a new version of the track "Lose Him" (1988), featuring sampled voices instead of a recorded singer. They disbanded in 1989.
