French author, composer, musician and performer Hugo Barriol was born in Saint-Ãtienne in 1990. Spotted on the Paris metro after doing the same on a trip to Australia, French singer Hugo Barriol's destiny was unexpected when he was offered an artist's contract. The man who had been performing his own compositions and covers at various stations caught the attention of a production company, Octopus, in February 2015. He then did a studio session and presented himself at the Metro Music Awards, where he won an award. Signed by independent label Naïve, he recorded a five-track self-titled debut EP, released in June 2017. It reveals his acoustic, melodic folk style, inspired by and interpreted in English, notably through the track "On the Road", which evokes his experiences on the road. After two other releases in 2018, "Million Years" and "Always", the bearded singer worked on his first album in a London studio, in the company of producer Ian Grimble, whose credentials include sessions with the bands Mumford & Sons and Bear's Den. This first effort, Yellow, will be released in February 2019, with the title track "Oh My", prior to a French tour. A solo musician and traveler, Hugo Barriol continues with the album Everywhere / Anywhere (2023), followed by the EP As It Is (2026).
