Howard Jones

John Howard Jones, known by his stage name Howard Jones, is a British musician and singer, born on February 23, 1955 in Southampton, Hampshire. He began piano lessons at the age of seven. After moving to Canada in his teens, he joined a progressive rock band called Warrior. On his return to England, he settled in Manchester and played in several synthpop bands before launching out as a solo artist. He was signed by Warner in 1983 and released his first single, "New Song", which reached number three in the UK and number 27 in the USA. From then on, he enjoyed a string of hits, becoming a key figure in synthpop and new wave: "What Is Love?" (#2 in the UK that same year), "Hide and Seek" (#12), "Pearl in the Shell" (#7), "Like to Get to Know You Well" (#4) in 1984, "Things Can Only Get Better" (#6) and "Look Mama " (#10) in 1985. Her albums were also highly successful: Human's Lib (UK Top Album No. 1 in 1984), Dream Into Action (No. 2 in 1985), One to One (No. 10 in 1986) and Cross That Line (No. 64 in 1989). The 1990s were less prosperous, but Howard Jones remained productive, releasing In the Running (1992), Working in the Backroom (1994), Angels & Lovers (1997) and People (1998). In the 2000s, he released two volumes (in 2003 and 2006) of Piano Solos (For Friends and Loved Ones). In 2019, Howard Jones returned to the top of the UK album charts at number 49 with Transform. The album Dialogue follows in 2022, and Piano Composed(Vinyl or Spirio for the CD edition) in 2025.
