Hope of the States

Hope of The States was an English indie rock group formed in Chichester, United Kingdom. The band initially consisted of Sam Herlihy and Keith Seymour on bass. Following their discovery after sending a demo to Planet Sound teletext page they were signed to Sony BMG. Their debut album, The Lost Riots, released on June 7, 2004, peaked at number 40 in the UK Albums Chart. The first single from this album was "Black Dollar Bills". Hope of The States embarked on an extensive UK tour beginning in October 2004. Michael Hibbert replaced James "Jimmi" Lawrence, who died by suicide on January 15, 2004, during recording sessions for The Lost Riots. Their follow-up album, Left, was released on June 19, 2006. The lead single "Sing It Out" reached number 39 in the UK Singles Chart and was accompanied by a low-key tour. During their set at Reading Festival on August 27, 2006, it was announced that this would be their last show. The band officially split up three days later. After disbanding, members went on to form other projects such as The Northwestern and Troubles. In July 2024 the band reunited to play three comeback gigs in December 2024. This came with a new song "Long Waits in A&E", released digitally on November 1, 2024. "Billboard Mountain" followed on October 13, 2025.
