Hipster Daddy-O & The Handgrenades formed in 1997 in Tucson, Arizona, blending swing music, ska, rockabilly, and rock. They gained a local following in the Southwest U.S. and were part of the late 1990s swing revival movement. Their debut album, Armed and Swingin', was released in 1998 on Slimstyle Records, featuring "The Perpetrator", which appeared in the 2000 film Me, Myself & Irene, and "Daddy-O", used by Russian gymnast Elena Zamolodchikova at the 2000 Summer Olympics. The band toured nationally from 1998 to 2000 with acts like Real Big Fish and Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Their second album, Diesel, was released in October 2000 on Slimstyle and BMG Music labels.
