Have Mercy

Formed in Baltimore, Maryland, in 2009, Have Mercy is an emo and post-hardcore rock band. Created by vocalist and guitarist Brian Swindle, the band is making a name for itself with music that blends melodic guitars, alternative rhythms and introspective lyrics carried by hoarse, emotional vocals. After a self-released debut EP, they released their debut album The Earth Pushed Back in 2013 on Topshelf Records, which caught the attention of the emo revival scene. In 2014, they signed to Hopeless Records and released A Place of Our Own, broadening their audience thanks to a more accomplished production. The band followed up with Make the Best of It (2017) and The Love Life (2019), tackling themes of loss, mental health and personal reconstruction. Following the death of drummer/percussionist Aaron Alt (present until 2014) and the departure of guitarist Nate Geason in 2019, the band took an indefinite break in 2020, interrupted in 2022 by the recording of new material. Around Swindle, the band reunites guitarist Andrew Johnson and bassist Nick Woolford, present since 2011, with drummer Todd Wallace. Have Mercy released an EP with the same title in 2022 and the album Numb in 2023. The same year, Wallace handed over to Steve Wootteon for the sessions on the following album, The Earth Pushed Back, followed by The Loneliest Place I've Ever Been (2025).
