Hasidic New Wave

Hasidic New Wave, a five-member American experimental‑klezmer band, was formed in the mid‑1990s by Greg Wall and Frank London. The group blended elements of Klezmer and traditional Hasidic music with experimental jazz, funk, and rock. Their debut album, Jews and the Abstract Truth, was recorded in 1996 and released in 1997, featuring guest appearances from Ben Goldberg, Anthony Coleman, and Gary Lucas. Notable releases include Psycho‑Semitic (1998), Kabalogy (1999), and Live in Kraków (1998). Their final album, From the Belly of Abraham, was released in 2001 in collaboration with the Senegalese percussion group Yakar Rhythms (including Alioune Faye). The band's music was part of the Radical Jewish Culture movement, which sought to break away from post‑WWII Jewish musical norms and embrace a new self‑awareness within Jewish music.
