Harmonium

A short-lived but legendary group formed in Quebec in the 1970s by Serge Fiori (guitars, mandolin, zither, flute, vocals), Michel Normandeau (guitar, dulcimer, accordion, vocals) and Louis Valois (bass, piano, vocals). Harmonium was the main witness to the pop revival of Quebec chanson, with a style marked by vocal harmonies and acoustic guitars à la Crosby, Stills & Nash and, lyrically, by a critique of industrial society and a dream of returning to the land. Author of three studio albums that are essential to the genre, Harmonium (1974), Les Cinq Saisons (1975) and L'Heptade (1976), considered the best Quebec rock album, the band crossed the Atlantic with the famous song "Dixie " with its catchy chorus, before breaking up in 1980. On June 24, 2025, Quebec's national holiday, Serge Fiori, who had led a solo career, died at the age of 73.
