Hantaoma, a folk metal group from Tarbes and Lourdes in Midi-Pyrénées, France, was formed in 1997 by members of Stille Volk. The band's name translates to "ghost" in Gascon, a dialect of Occitan, and refers to spirits or mountain genies. Their debut album, Malombra, was released in 2005 under Holy Records and received positive reviews. The group's unique sound combines acoustic traditional instruments like flutes and luths with heavy metal elements, including blast beats and tremolo picking. Notable songs include "Vent Follet" and "Malombra", which draw from traditional Occitan sources and local folklore. Hantaoma's music often explores themes related to the Pyrénéan pantheon and the natural environment of the mountains. Their second album, Malamòrt, was released in 2018.
