From the great tradition of American jazz and soul crooners, Gregory Porter (born in Sacramento, California, November 4, 1971) emerged in 2010 with the album Water, set to the hit single "1960 What? The singer with the eternal headgear, whose style oscillates between jazz and soul, makes an impression with his warm timbre and his own well-highlighted compositions. In 2012, the single "Be Good" heralded a new album of the same name. It was with his next album, Liquid Spirit (2013), that Gregory Porter reached a mainstream American audience outside the jazz world. This debut album for the Blue Note label, from which the singles "Free" and "Hey Laura" were taken , found twenty million followers on streaming, a record for a jazz album, before winning the 2014 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album. Three years later, Take Me to the Alley and its new bravura tracks "Holding On" and "Don't Lose Your Steam" were released, also winning Grammy Awards. His fifth album, Nat "King" Cole & Me (2017), under the direction of Vince Mendoza, sees him cover the classics left by the great crooner. This return to his musical roots is followed by a second live recording after Live in Berlin (2016), captured this time in London: One Night Only: Live at the Royal Albert Hall (2018). Gregory Porter then turns his attention to composing his sixth album, All Rise (2020). Produced by the British artist Troy Miller, it was well received by critics and the public alike, particularly for "Revival Song", a new standard in his repertoire. In 2023, he sacrificed himself to the rite of the carol album with Christmas Wish, before teaming up two years later with Ben Harlan for the soundtrack to the film Goodbye June, featuring the title track "Good Goodbye".
