The Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA) is a gospel music organization founded in Detroit in 1967 by James Cleveland. With over 75,000 members worldwide, the musical, religious and educational organization gathers each year for a convention, the world's largest, resulting in a live recording. Iconic albums include Live in Detroit, Michigan (1978), Live in Washington, D.C. (1979), Recorded Live in Houston, Texas (1982), Live in Cincinnati, Ohio (1984), Live in Kansas City 2004 (2005) and the 25th Anniversary compilation released in 1993. The latter includes the chart-topping No Greater Love. In addition to its annual convention, the organization, which survived the death of its founder on February 9, 1991, gives singing workshops and helps promote new talent.
