With four Grammy Award nominations and sales of over 20 million albums to their credit, heavy metal band Godsmack can count themselves as one of the most successful bands in their genre of modern times. The band were formed in 1995 after Massachusetts-based drummer Sully Erna decided to take a break from playing the drums and try his hand as a frontman. Erna called the new band The Scam but quickly changed the name to Godsmack and their climb to rock and roll superstardom began. In their early days the band worked tirelessly playing small venues in and around Boston promoting their self-funded EP 'All Wound Up'. A local radio station picked up the single 'Whatever' and promoted it on their playlist and the band began to take off. Since those early days the band have had a phenomenally successful career; their debut album 'Godsmack' was released in 1998 and sold steadily for the next three years eventually being certified 4 x platinum by the RIAA. The band have continued to develop and evolve and are now firmly established as a mainstream heavy metal band playing arenas and festivals across the world.
