The German Brass is a professional brass ensemble with origins dating back to 1974. Initially a quintet formed in Munich, Germany, the group performed under the names Deutsches Blechbläserquintett, the German Brass Quintett, and Quintette à Cuivres Allemand. Trombonist Enrique Crespo joined the ensemble in 1984 and while arranging music for their album Bach 300, he doubled the group’s size and renamed them The German Brass. The new line-up – made up of four trumpets, three trombones, two horns, and a tuba, plus a drummer - was a success and they followed it up with several more albums including Around The World (1989), Spirit of Brass (1994), With Bach into the 3rd Millennium (2000), Power of Brass (2005) and Fascination Bach (2009). However, Enrique Crespo and the rest of the ensemble had disagreements about the German Brass copyright and Crespo left the group. The group has continued to release a series of albums including Celebrating Wagner (2013), the Echo Klassik-winning Bach on Brass (2016), Rhapsody (2017), Brass Homage (2018), Trip to America (2019), and It’s Christmas Time (2022).
