General Levy

General Levy is a British DJ who helped push ragga music into general popularity in the 1990s with a series of exciting performances and albums. Born in North London, he began working with sound systems at local venues until his 1988 single 'New Cockatoo' won national attention. He signed on with Fashion Records and made his album debut with DJ Capleton on 'Double Trouble', which made a splash with ragga fans. More releases followed including 'The Wickeder General' in 1992, 'Wickedness Increase' in 1993 and 'Rumble in the Jungle' in 1994. The single 'Incredible' with M-Beat went to number eight on the UK's Official Charts in '94 and was later heard on the soundtrack of the 2002 Sacha Baron Cohen feature film 'Ali G Indahouse'. His other collaborative efforts included Rocco Barker and Mark Morrison, with whom he made 'Only God Can Judge Me'. Levy has been involved with several different sound systems since the 1980s and his exuberant live performances have sustained his popularity.
