Born in Dublin, Ireland, on July 5, 1991, Gavin James (real name: Gavin Gigglesworth) grew up in a household where his father's records, by Cat Stevens, Bob Dylan and Sam Cooke, were in constant rotation, helping to forge a solid musical culture. Buoyed by the experience of his grandparents, who were opera singers as well as actors for his grandfather, he began devoting himself to music at the age of 14, playing in a rock band for which he was already composing his own songs. Although this adventure eventually came to nothing, it galvanized Gavin James, who went on to pursue his solo career, gradually winning over a wider audience. By the age of 21, he was doing the rounds of open mic nights, playing to promote his repertoire and asserting his songwriting skills. In 2013, he released his single "Say Hello" independently, winning the Meteor Choice Award for Song of the Year in the process. He then signed to Sony for Europe and Capitol Records for the United States, and finally released his debut album entitled Bitter Pill at the end of 2015. It quickly found its way into the charts (#5 in Ireland, #52 in the UK). Buoyed by the European success of "The Book of Love" and "Nervous", remixed by Mark McCabe, the Irish singer maintains his status as a pop revelation with the album Only Ticket Home (#2 in 2018), from which the hits "Always" (#53 in Ireland and #25 in Belgium) and "Glow " (#65) are taken. James continued his career as a songwriter, guitarist and performer with the albums Boxes (his first Irish No. 1) and The Sweetest Part (also No. 1 in 2022), in the absence of further singles success. Goldrush followed in 2025, his third consecutive #1 in his home country.
