Gabriel Feltz

German conductor Gabriel Feltz was born in East Berlin on June 17, 1971. He studied at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler Berlin, graduating in 1994 with degrees in conducting and piano. His early career included assistant positions under Gerd Albrecht at the Hamburgische Staatsoper and engagements at the Städtischen Bühnen Lübeck and Theater Bremen. Feltz's breakthrough came when he became Generalmusikdirektor of the Theater & Philharmonie Thüringen in Gera/Altenburg from 2000 to 2005. He has since conducted notable orchestras such as the Deutsche Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Bayerisches Staatsorchester, and the Gürzenich-Orchester Köln. From 2013 to 2025, Feltz served as Generalmusikdirektor at Theater Dortmund, leading the Dortmunder Philharmoniker. He has also been the Chief Conductor of the Belgrader Philharmonie from 2017 until his death in Essen, on August 29, 2025. Notable recordings include Mahler: Symphony No. 3 (2011) and Symphonie N°4 (2012).
