FUNKIST, a Japanese rock band formed in 2001, consists of vocalist Saigō Someya, guitarist Miyata Taiji, and guitarist Yoshirō. The group initially gained traction with their single "White World", which reached Number 1 on the Tower Records Shibuya J-INDIES chart for two consecutive weeks in 2007 and ranked Fourteenth on the Oricon Indie chart. In 2008, FUNKIST signed with Pony Canyon and released their debut major-label single "All Together", which served as the theme song for the "All-Star Charity Pro Wrestling" event supporting Tohoku earthquake relief efforts. The band's breakthrough came with "Snow Fairy" in 2009, which became the opening theme for the anime series Fairy Tail. This was followed by their debut album SUNRISE 7 and subsequent releases such as FUNKIST CUP and 7, solidifying their presence in the J-rock scene. FUNKIST is also known for performing "Ft.", another opening theme for Fairy Tail. The band's flutist, Yōko Kasugai, passed away in 2011 at the age of 35 while recuperating from an illness.
