Freygang

Freygang, a German rock band founded in 1977 by André Greiner-Pol in East Berlin during the blues craze in the DDR. Known for their politically charged lyrics, Freygang became a key player in the DDR underground movement. The band was also known for their energetic live performances and political activism, including involvement in the occupation of the Eimer in Berlin. Notable early releases include Freygang (1991) and Wenn der Wind sich dreht (1992). The band faced performance bans due to their critical lyrics but continued to gain popularity with albums like Landunter (1998) and Aus Liebe (2001). Their 2009 album, Orange, was released following André Greiner-Pol's death in 2008. Freygang disbanded in 2019.
