A short-lived group on the German jazz-rock scene, Free Orbit, whose members included renowned singer and drummer Udo Lindenberg, recorded just one album. Formed in Hamburg in 1969 by Lindenberg aka Lyndon Berg and trombonist Peter Herbolzheimer, other members included Mike Brooks (vocals), Freddy Christmann and Heinz Habermann (trumpets), Frank St. Peter and Emil Wurster (saxophones), Rainer Vogelei and Hans Hartmann (basses). A year after its formation, the MPS label released their only jazz, rock, soul and funk fusion album, Free Jazz Goes Underground (1970), featuring ten tracks performed exclusively in English, composed by Lindenberg alone or with other members. The now cult album was reissued successively by Membran International in 2003, then by MPS in 2014 and 2025 in CD and vinyl formats, with three bonus tracks from Lindenberg's first solo album.
