Fleur East

Musician and pop culture figure Fleur East initially gained attention for her second place performance on the UK competition series The X Factor, and parlayed that time in the spotlight to embark on a recording career and land a gig as a radio host. Born October 29, 1987, in the London suburb of Walthamstow, East made a less-successful play for X Factor success in 2005 with the girl group Addictiv Ladies, and it wasn’t until 2014 that she returned with her own blend of R&B and dance-pop and saw it through to the end. In the intervening years, she had been a featured performer on several singles and found work as a model and waitress to support her musical ambitions, and had almost given up before The X Factor came calling a second time. After a fresh wave of exposure from the show, East released her debut album, Love, Sax & Flashbacks in 2015, on Simon Cowell’s label Syco Music. The record topped out at Number 12 in the UK, and lead single “Sax” peaked at Number 3 on the UK Singles chart. But it was her cover of “Uptown Funk”, particularly a version performed live on The X Factor, that earned the most attention and reached the Number 1 spot on the UK Singles chart. East’s next album wouldn’t arrive for another five years, but she kept busy between releases with further reality TV work and also landed a job hosting the morning show on UK station Hits Radio in July 2019. East parted ways with Syco Music and released Fearless independently in 2020.
