Filipe Mukenga

Francisco Felipe da Conceição Gumbe, known as Filipe Mukenga, was born on September 7, 1949, in Luanda, Angola. He began performing in the 1960s, inspired by jazz and international artists like The Beatles. His stage name emerged during his time with Duo Misoso. Mukenga released several albums, including Kianda Kianda (1994) and Nós Somos Nós (2009), and is known for songs like "Humbi humbi" and "Nvula." In 2008, he won the Common Ground Music Award with Filipe Zau. Mukenga has collaborated extensively with artists such as Djavan and Underground Sound of Lisbon, contributing to projects like Onda Sonora: Red Hot + Lisbon (1998). He participated in the 45th-anniversary celebration of Angola's national anthem "Angola Avante" in 2020.
