Felipe Renán Peláez Rodríguez, known as Felipe Peláez, was born on February 7, 1976, in Maracaibo, Venezuela. He is a Colombian-Venezuelan singer and composer of vallenato and other musical genres, whose compositions have been recorded by prominent artists such as Iván Villazón and Jorge Oñate. He began playing instruments like the piano and guitar during his student years. At 16, he moved to Bogotá for university studies, initially pursuing mechanical engineering before switching to music. Felipe Peláez's breakthrough came when accordionist Rafael Ricardo invited him to join his musical group with Otto Serge. This opportunity led to Felipe Peláez becoming part of Sony Music’s roster, where he recorded his first composition "Soñando Contigo". He later joined the group Los Amigos Del Sol as a second voice, gaining recognition from notable artists like Joe Arroyo and Diomedes Díaz. In 1999, Felipe Peláez released his debut album Deseos, marking his entry into the tropical music scene. His first major hit was "Borracha", which became the official song of the 2007 Barranquilla Carnival and was later included in the LP A Paso Firme, released that same year. He has collaborated with various artists, including Gilberto Santa Rosa for the Grammy-winning salsa album Irrepetible (2010). Throughout his career, Felipe Peláez has released numerous successful albums including Mas Que Palabras (2010), De Otra Manera (2011), and Diferente (2012). His album Diferente was recognized by the Latin Recording Academy as the best Vallenato-Cumbia album in 2013. In the following decade, Felipe Pelaéz cemented his popularity in the vallenato scene through albums such as Ponle Actitud (2018), Diverso (2022), Un Sueño Llamado Ranchera (2023), and Íntimo Sessions (2025).
