Fabrizio Cassol

Fabrizio Cassol, born on June 8, 1964 in Ougrée, Belgium, is a saxophonist known for his work in contemporary jazz. He studied at the Conservatoire de Liège from 1982 to 1985, earning first prize in saxophone, a higher diploma in chamber music, and training in composition and improvisation. Cassol began touring with Trio Bravo, alongside Michel Massot and Michel Debrulle, before forming Aka Moon in 1991 with Stéphane Galland and Michel Hatzigeorgiou, after a trip to meet the Aka pygmy tribe. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with musicians such as Frédéric Rzewski, Garrett List, William Sheller, Jacques Pelzer, Toots Thielemans, David Linx, Henri Pousseur, Magic Malik, Kris Defoort, and DJ Grazzhoppa. He has also composed for dance and theatre, working with companies like Rosas, Alain Platel (“VSPRS,” “Pitié!,” “Coup de Chœurs”), the Comédie-Française, tg Stan, Luc Bondy, and Philippe Boesmans. He has used the aulochrome, a double soprano saxophone created by François Louis, since September 2001.
