England Dan & John Ford Coley were an American soft rock duo comprising Danny Wayland "England Dan" Seals and John Edward "John Ford" Coley. Originally from Texas, they began performing in local bands during their school years at W.W. Samuell High School in Dallas, including Playboys Five and Theze Few. The duo initially recorded demos as The Shimmerers in Nashville before joining the Dallas pop/psych group Southwest F.O.B. They signed with A&M Records in 1970 under the name England Dan & John Ford Coley. After being released from their contract, they recorded a demo of "I'd Really Love to See You Tonight" written by Parker McGee which led to a deal with Big Tree Records and became a US number 2 hit single in September 1976. Their debut album Nights Are Forever was released in July 1976. In March 1977, they released "Dowdy Ferry Road", featuring the hits "It's Sad To Belong (To Someone Else)" and Coley’s own song "Gone Too Far" which went to number 21 and 23 respectively. In 1977, they composed the theme for James at 15 and in March 1978 released Some Things Don't Come Easy, including "We'll Never Have to Say Goodbye Again" which peaked at number 9. They contributed songs to the movie Just Tell Me You Love Me in 1980, before splitting up when Seals pursued a country music career. Dan Seals died March 25, 2009 following treatment for mantle cell lymphoma and Coley continued touring with other projects.
