EMF

EMF, an English alternative rock band from Cinderford, Gloucestershire, formed in October 1989. The group consisted of James Atkin on vocals, guitars, and keyboards, Ian Dench on guitars and keyboards, Derry Brownson on keyboards and samples, Zac Foley on bass, DJ Milf on turntables, and Mark Decloedt on drums. Before forming EMF, the members were active in the local music scene. Their breakthrough came with their 1990 debut single "Unbelievable," which reached number 3 on the UK Singles Chart and topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart in July 1991. The band's debut album Schubert Dip was released in May 1991, peaking at number 3 on the UK Albums Chart. Notable singles from this period include "I Believe," "Children," and "Lies." In 1992, EMF released the Unexplained EP and their second album Stigma. That year, the band also contributed to the Red Hot Organization's dance compilation album Red Hot + Dance with a remix of "Unbelievable (The Hovering Feet Mix)," raising awareness for AIDS charities. Their third album, Cha Cha Cha, was released in 1995 and featured the singles "Perfect Day" and "Bleeding You Dry." Following the release of the 1995 standalone single "Afro King," EMF disbanded in 1997. Zac Foley died on January 3, 2002, at the age of 31 due to an overdose of non-prescribed drugs. The band reunited multiple times for performances and released new material, including Go Go Sapiens in 2022 and The Beauty and the Chaos in 2024.
