Elisabeth Leonskaja

Pianist Elisabeth Leonskaja began her performing career at the age of eleven, going on to study at Moscow Conservatory. While a student she won several international piano competition prizes including Enescu and Queen Elizabeth. In 1978, at the age of 33, Leonskaja fled the Soviet Union in favour of Vienna. Performing at Salzburg Festival she quickly made a name for herself as a professional musician. She performed solo as well as with orchestras and ensembles including New York Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, Zurich Tonhalle and Gewandhausorchester Leipzig. She also recorded several works for physical release including 'Paris' (2013) featuring works by Debussy, Ravela and Enescu.
