Elf

Elf was an American rock band from Cortland, New York. Formed in 1967, the group was founded by singer and bassist Ronnie James Dio along with keyboardist Doug Thaler, drummer Gary Driscoll and guitarists Nick Pantas and David Feinstein. The ensemble originally performed under the name the Electric Elves and later the Elves before changing its name to Elf in 1972. The band’s eponymous debut studio album, Elf, appeared in 1972 and was produced by members of Deep Purple. During 1974, Dio was invited to perform on the Roger Glover solo recording The Butterfly Ball and the Grasshopper's Feast. The group’s subsequent studio recordings included the albums Carolina County Ball (1974) and Trying to Burn the Sun (1975). Elf disbanded in 1975 when several members were recruited to form the band Rainbow.
