Electrico

Indie rock band Electrico formed in Singapore in 1996. Initially brought together to perform at a church function, David Tan (vocals/guitar), William Lim, Jr. (drums), Keith Colaco (guitar), and Desmond Goh (bass) originally called themselves Electric Company. While the band built up a following over the next three years, Keith Colaco left the group and the other three members split up a short time later. In 2003, Tan, Goh, and Lim reactivated the band with the addition of former Livonia guitarist Daniel Sassoon. At first, they changed their name to Electric Co., but finally settled on Electrico. With the addition of keyboardist Amanda Ling, the ‘classic’ line-up was in place. In 2004, the group’s first single, “I Want You”, went to Number 1 on the radio charts and was followed by their hit debut album So Much More Inside. The group was nominated for Favorite Artist: Singapore at the MTV Asia Awards. Electrico released their second album, Hip City, in 2006 and continued to be honored with awards and nominations. The album’s first single, “Love in New Wave”, reached the Number 1 position on the radio charts. In May 2008, guitarist Daniel Sassoon announced his departure from the band just two months before the release of their third album, We Satellites. A year after the release of the album, keyboardist Amanda Ling left the group and Electrico was a trio again. The group remained active, playing live shows but did not release any new recordings until the 2021 surprise EP B-Sides: Live at the Power Station. The release found the band revisiting some of their more obscure album tracks including “Shadow”, which was originally released on their 2008 album We Satellites. The group then released Left of the Century in July 2021, an EP containing four new songs.
