Dub Narcotic Sound System

Dub Narcotic Sound System were a genre-blending musical project based in Olympia, Washington, known for their experimental mix of dub, indie-rock, dance-punk, and electronic music. Formed in 1995, the project was conceived as a collaboration between several members of the influential K Records collective, with Calvin Johnson, the founder of K Records and frontman of the legendary band Beat Happening, at its core. Over the years, the band became a central figure in the underground music scene, particularly known for its innovative fusion of styles and an adventurous approach to sound manipulation. Their debut EP, Industrial Breakdown, came out in 1995 and they continued to experiment with their sound across subsequent releases such as the Handclappin' EP in 2003 and the Degenerate Introduction album in 2004 (released a year after they split up in 2003). In 2025, a remix of their 1994 single "Fuck Shit Up" brought renewed attention to the band.
