Dua Saleh, born in Kassala, Sudan, is a singer and actor based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. As a child refugee from the Second Sudanese Civil War, Saleh moved to the United States and settled in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Saleh began writing poetry at age four and performed at open mics during high school. While studying sociology and gender studies at Augsburg University, Saleh released their first single "First Take" in 2017 under the stage name Dua. In 2019, Saleh released their debut EP Nūr, followed by two additional EPs: Rosetta (2020) and Crossover (2021). Saleh's music, characterized as rap, pop, and R&B, has been noted for its genre-defying qualities.
