DJ Rap

Charissa Saverio, born 7 December 1966 in Singapore, is best known as DJ Rap, a Singaporean‑born British DJ and producer artist whose work spans drum and bass, house, and progressive electronic music. After moving to Southampton as a teenager and later living in East London, she embarked on her music career with early engineering work and self‑released her first CD, gaining attention that led to a signing with Sony alongside Grooverider and Leftfield. Her breakthrough album Learning Curve arrived in 1999 to critical acclaim, featuring singles such as "Good to Be Alive" and "Bad Girl"; the album earned a three‑and‑a‑half‑star review from Rolling Stone. Subsequent releases followed a steady cadence: Bulletproof (2005), Up All Night (2006), Synthesis (2010), and Should Have Known (2011), each reinforcing her presence in the underground scene. DJ Rap also curated compilations-Journeys by DJ, Propa Classics Vol. 1, Propa Classics Vol. 2, and Touching Bass-and operated two independent labels, Propa Talent and Impropa Talent, where she A&R'd emerging artists. Her collaborations included vocals on BT’s "Giving Up the Ghost" and Art of Trance’s "Madagascar" (Domi Nation Remix). In 2014, she appeared in the documentary The Principle as “Hologram Girl” and portrayed Helena Bertinelli in short films Riddle of the Mask and Truth of the Mask. DJ Rap released music, including "Higher" (2023) and "Switch (Bladerunner Mix)" (2026), maintaining a consistent output in the electronic music landscape.
