Die Sterne

Die Sterne are a German indie pop band from Hamburg. The band reached its commercial peak at the turn of the millennium, when albums such as Wo ist hier (1999) and Irres Licht (2002) reached the top 40 in Germany. Singer and guitarist Frank Spilker initially founded Die Sterne in 1987 as a side project. When bassist Thomas Wenzel and drummer Christoph Leich joined, the band was officially founded in 1991. They sign with the German label L'Age D'Or. Die Sterne released their debut album Wichtig on this label in 1993, followed by In echt in 1994. Posen , released in 1996, entered the German charts for the first time. Von allen Gedanken schätze ich doch am meisten die interessanten reached number 43 in 1997, narrowly missing out on the top 40. Two years later, Wo ist hier climbed to number 27, giving the band their first success in the top 40. Irres Licht reached number 36 in 2006. Although the band's commercial success flattened out somewhat in the following years, Die Sterne remained active and released four more albums in the 2010s, including Für Anfänger (2012), Flucht in die Flucht (2014) and the self-titled Die Sterne (2020). With the original line-up, Die Sterne continued to record new material in the 2020s, starting with Hallo Euphoria in 2022. In February 2024, the compilation Grandezza was released, featuring hits from 30 years of the band's history. Another studio album, Wenn es Liebe ist, followed at the beginning of 2026.
