Deepak Dev

Deepak Devraj Komath, known professionally as Deepak Dev, is an Indian composer born on April 30, 1978, recognized for his work in Malayalam cinema. Originally from Thalassery, Kerala, he was raised in Dubai, where he studied at the Indian High School and trained in Carnatic music before shifting his focus to the keyboard. During his college years at Sacred Heart College, Kochi, he led a successful rock band and began working as a music programmer with major Indian composers like A.R. Rahman and Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. A former member of the Kochi-based rock band Motherjane, Deepak Dev nearly abandoned his music career after graduation, but a series of chance events—including a repeatedly unsold keyboard and an invitation to perform with Siddique-Lal in the U.S.—revived his musical ambitions. Encouraged by Siddique’s praise of his compositions, Deepak Dev chose to pursue music full-time, relocating to Chennai in 1999. His official entry into the film industry came with Chronic Bachelor (2003), directed by Siddique, marking the beginning of his career as a film composer. Over the years, he has contributed to multiple films, including Honey Bee (2013), Kaattu (2017) and Kaavalaai Chekavar (2025).
