David Grier, born in Washington, D.C. in 1961, is an American acoustic guitarist known for his mastery of flatpicking and crosspicking techniques. He began playing guitar at age six after moving to Nashville with his family. His father Lamar was a banjo player in Bill Monroe's band. Grier joined the Virginia band Full Time at 20 years old. During the 1980s, he performed with Country Gazette and Doug Dillard before releasing his debut album Freewheeling in 1988. His subsequent albums include Lone Soldier (1995), Hootenanny (1998), Iâve Got the House to Myself (2002), and Panorama (1997). He has been recognized as "Guitar Player of the Year" by the International Bluegrass Music Association three times.
