Dave Ball

David James Ball, known professionally as Dave Ball, was born on May 3, 1959, in Chester, Cheshire, England. He gained recognition as one half of the synth-pop duo Soft Cell with vocalist Marc Almond, forming in 1978 and releasing their debut single "Tainted Love" in 1981, which reached Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. Ball also released his solo album In Strict Tempo in 1983. After Soft Cell disbanded in 1984, he co-founded The Grid with Richard Norris and collaborated with various artists. He reunited with Almond for Soft Cell's comeback album Cruelty Without Beauty in 2002. Ball continued to work on multiple projects, including the experimental electronic album Photosynthesis with Jon Savage in 2016. His final album with Soft Cell, Danceteria, was completed just before his death on October 22, 2025, at the age of 66.
