Corvus Corax, a German band formed in 1989 by Castus Rabensang, Wim Venustus, and Meister Selbfried in East Germany, is known for their unique blend of medieval rock using authentic instruments. Their early work includes albums like Ante Casu Peccati (1989) and Congregatio (1990). In 1996, Corvus Corax released Tanzwut, which combined metal music with their signature sound of bagpipes. The band's ambitious project Cantus Buranus (2005) was a full-length opera set to the original Carmina Burana manuscript lyrics, performed with symphonic orchestra, choir, and medieval ensemble. Corvus Corax has released numerous albums including Venus Vina Musica (2006), Sverker (2011), and Der Fluch des Drachen (2017). The band's live performances are notable for their distinctive visual style, reminiscent of ancient Greek myths.
